Over het boek
The author, Alice McNamara (née Leduc), was born in Sudbury on December 26th, 1924. Although she spent her very first years elsewhere, in February 1929, she moved to Sudbury with her family and she has been a resident of that area ever since. The youngest of three daughters, this Franco-Ontarian has lived through the great events of the twentieth century, including the Great Depression, the Second World War and the Baby Boom era.
She married Joseph McNamara in 1954, and together they raised 7 children: four boys and three girls. Today, she is the proud grandmother and great-grandmother of a growing clan.
Her story is a testimony to the enduring power of self-giving love and unconditional commitment.
In her autobiography, My Sudbury... For Nine Decades, Alice McNamara shares what life was like for her as a child of the Twenties who came of age during the Second World War. Her later life as a devoted wife and mother of seven children gives us a glimpse into the important role family, faith and community played in shaping the lives and values of her generation.
To read this book is to step back in time and reflect on what life was like for those who came before us. It is a call to return to simpler ways and fully enjoy the simple pleasures of life in the midst of life's challenges.
