Over de maker
Duncan Reid’s work is inspired by an unconventional training. A Boston-based artist, Reid’s parents were both artists who met at The Rhode Island School of Design, and he grew up around art and antiques. Reid paints in either oils or acrylics on handcrafted wooden panels that appear to float about an inch off the wall. His acrylics employ an aging effect, created in layers, distressed, and then stabilized by mounting them on the wood panels. His oils are based in traditional methods but tempered by modern materials and approaches. Other assemblages are constructed using a combination of these or other techniques. Over the years, Duncan has cultivated a variety of media and disciplines including stage props, theatrical production, and sound design. He has also been a graphic artist for 30 years, an occupation that lends its tools and ideas directly to his work.
