Over het boek
The centrepiece of this book is a first hand account of a pilgrimage from Kitzbuhel to Rome during the Holy Year of 1950. The author, Katherine Watson (1918-2008) was a deeply devout and perceptive poet and writer. She was received into the Roman Catholic Church in 1947, and for a few months in 1949 she tried her vocation as a Cistercian nun. Her account of her pilgrimage is a revelation of human nature on many levels, and a priceless resource to anyone interested in a wide-eyed description of rural life in Austria and Italy in the immediate aftermath of World War II. It was never published in her lifetime, but now her Literary Executor has made it available, accompanied by background notes and an epilogue describing Katherine’s life after she returned to England.
