Dedicated to photography since 1970, Michael Dunev (Madrid, 1952) spent most of the 1970s in South America, mainly in Peru and Brazil. In Rio de Janeiro he worked as a photojournalist, publishing his works in various Brazilian magazines. The 80s and 90s saw him in the US, where he lived in Vermont and California, combining his photographic work with film and theater lighting design, working mostly with modern dance companies. A graduate of the San Francisco Art Institute, in 1982 he opened a contemporary art gallery in the same city and a fine art workshop in 1991, editing artist's books and monotypes. Returning to Spain in 1999 he established an art centre in Catalonia, exhibiting contemporary art until 2017, when he retired from the art business to pursue his lifelong interest in photography.
