Over het boek
With more than 400 original colour photographs and a new story on almost every page, this book is a fluid blend of photography and nature writing.
The author describes her encounters, over a decade and a half, with the fascinating flora and fauna near her home on Gabriola Island, and along the British Columbia coast as she explores further afield by boat. She includes details about life cycles and environmental challenges, and is always attentive to the beauty and inspiration to be found in the intricacies of nature.
The photos and stories were originally published in the author’s blog, "Eye On Environment”, which a reader described as “good medicine in stressful times”. They have been revised and updated for this book, and a number of new photos have been added.

Laurie MacBride
Gabriola, BC, Canada
Laurie MacBride is a photographer and life-long west coast resident and boater, inspired by nature and the British Columbia coast. Before retiring she co-founded and worked for close to two decades to build the Georgia Strait Alliance, a non-profit conservation group working to protect and restore the marine environment of her region, now known informally as the Salish Sea. Nowadays her focus is on photographing and writing about the natural wonders around her – whether at home on Gabriola Island or exploring the coast by boat and kayak.
