Over het boek
Sticky Rice Hands is a heartfelt story about family, culture, and the quiet ways love is passed down through generations.
Told through the eyes of a young girl growing up in America, this story honors the journey her family took long before she was born. Though she has never seen Laos herself, it lives within her—through the food they share, the stories they carry, and the traditions that shape who she is.
Inspired by real experiences, Sticky Rice Hands is a love letter to heritage, resilience, and the families who carry their history with them across oceans and generations.
Because some things are never left behind…they are held, shared, and remembered— in our hands.
This book is based on the true stories of my family. While AI-assisted tools were used during editing, the story, the illustrations and cultural experiences in these pages are my own.

I am a personal chef based in Southern California and the author of Sticky Rice Hands. My work is shaped by both my culinary background and my experience growing up in the United States within a Lao immigrant family. Through storytelling rooted in memory, culture, and food, I explore themes of identity, assimilation, and heritage within the Lao diaspora. My writing reflects the same intention I bring to my cooking: honoring tradition while sharing something deeply personal and meaningful.
