Over het boek
Each reflection begins with a carefully observed image from the natural world: a dragonfly feeding on a spent bloom, water catching light, a weathered leaf suspended by a thread, a quiet shoreline at dawn. Paired with Scripture and contemplation, these encounters reveal patterns of provision, renewal, restoration and hope woven throughout creation.
Written from the perspective of both scientist and believer, these reflections affirm that observation and faith need not stand in opposition. Science helps us understand the mechanisms of the world whereas Scripture reveals the deeper meaning and purpose behind it. Together they point toward the wisdom of the Creator and the enduring truths found in His Word.
Organized into thematic chapters that move from noticing and wonder toward restoration and renewal, The Formation of Seeing is both a spiritual journey and a practice of attention. Readers are invited to slow down, look carefully and discover that the ordinary world is often illuminated by extraordinary grace.
More than a collection of photographs and reflections, this book is an invitation: to see differently, to notice more deeply and ultimately to recognize the Source from which all light, beauty and purpose flow.

Over de maker
Diane Reil is a retired biologist, photographer and writer whose work explores the intersection of observation, faith and the natural world. Through photography she has learned that the smallest details of creation often reveal unexpected depth, beauty and meaning. The Formation of Seeing grew out of years spent capturing photographs of wildlife, landscapes and fleeting moments of beauty while reflecting on Scripture and the presence of God in everyday life. Her writing invites readers to slow down, cultivate wonder and recognize the Creator's hand in the world around them. Diane lives in Wisconsin where changing seasons, quiet shorelines and everyday encounters in creation continue to inspire her photography and writing.
