The images collected in this book come from several journeys to the refugee camps in the Tinduf region, in southwestern Algeria, where the Saharawi people have lived in exile since 1975. This exile was caused by the Moroccan invasion of Western Sahara, which forced hundreds of thousands of people to leave their land and seek refuge in the desert. According to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the Saharawi refugee population in this area is currently estimated at 173,600 people.
