Over het boek
Much of Carol's inspiration came from watching horror movies by directors such as: John Carpenter, Tobe Hooper, Sean S. Cunningham, Rob Zombie, Eli Roth, Robert Rodriguez and Jonathan Liebesman. She was also influenced by David Lynch and Dario Argento for their amazing ability to view the world so obscurely. The inspiration for the look of her images came from the 1970s Grindhouse films. They were full of color shifts and were often scratched due to the limited number of copies made and the many theaters each copy visited.
Aside from her love of horror movies this project was also an exploration into the mind of a serial killer and into the reactions of victims of these types of crimes. When Carol was a teenager a classmate was murdered and the killer was never caught, this was something that has stuck with her throughout her life. By doing this project she was able to take a deeper look at serial killers, through her research, to find out why they did what they did.

Over de maker
Carol is a professional portrait and wedding photographer who likes to step outside the comfort zone when working on her personal projects. She has both a BFA and a MFA in Photography. Carol believes that having your photograph taken should be a fun experience. She says, "Whether I am photographing a wedding, a family, a personal portrait or working on one of my side projects, I want the people I'm working with to have fun. While photographing "A Moment Before Dying", we would always say the people around where we were shooting would hear 3 minutes of screaming followed by 10 minutes of laughter. This is art, it's supposed to be fun and laughter is one of the main elements when working with me."
