Over het boek
From mid-November through February each year it provides a winter home to many species of migrating birds. Perhaps most famous for its Sandhill Crane population, it also teems with Snow Geese, Canada Geese, Bald Eagles and other raptors, and a myriad assortment of ducks and other waterfowl, birds and mammals.
During the author's days there, over 15,000 Cranes and over 30,000 Snow Geese were in attendance. Anyone who has ever experienced the dawn fly out or evening fly in of these magnificent creatures will never forget it.
It's too bad the sounds associated with these events can't be heard as a supplement to the images in this book.

Over de maker
Ed Lucas's interest in photography was nurtured at an early age by an uncle who was an award winning amateur photographer. The major influence later in his life has been Freeman Patterson, with whom he's studied, recognized by many critics as Canada's finest photographer. Lucas has exhibited and sold his work at numerous art shows, festivals and galleries over the past several decades. In choosing scenes and elements from the natural world, he encourages the viewer to escape for a moment to another emotional plane, one of peace and meditation. Renato Cremona, noted critic, art show judge and patron of the arts in Ohio, Florida and his native Austria, has evaluated Lucas' work thusly -- "Ed Lucas does not photograph subjects. His camera is merely an extension of his eye, soul and imagination."
