Between 21st October 2009 and the end of that month, my wife, daughter, granddaughter and I were in Japan as the guests of our son and Japanese daughter-in-law, who were celebrating their marriage.



We spent most of our time in Kyoto, but also visited Yokohama, Osaka, Tokyo, Nara and the sacred precinct of Koyasan.



This selection of photographs, deliberately uncaptioned, attempts to give "a summary exposition" - the dictionary definition of "aperçu" - of my impressions of a fleeting, but unforgettable, visit.
