“It is so fulfilling to watch a day’s delicate descent into night, or to witness a plundering storm from afar, or feel its frozen rain pummel my face, or to crunch through the snowcrust upon a mountain-top, to watch the ebb and flow of a golden dawn reflected upon serene waters. This is what I live for; every moment spent under an open sky is deeply gratifying. Growing up I always dreamed of being a landscape artist, of finding a way to capture the majesty and moods of this land. My conscient visual library of the South Island of NZ was grounded in the paintings of Grahame Sydney and the photography of both Craig Potton and Andris Apse. I’m sure these respected artists have had great influence on the style of my work and to this day - the way that I view the landscape and its light. Whilst I was a miserable failure in the medium of painting (that I so desired to achieve in as a child), I can at last thankfully say that with photography, I have perhaps found my brush..."
