Over het boek
The proposed central Brooklyn, New York development, "Atlantic Yards", if built as planned, would be the most expensive single development project in Brooklyn history. It would cover 22 acres and would include 16 skyscrapers, a 19,000 seat basketball arena for the NBA Nets and over 6400 units of housing. Estimated cost: over $4 billion.
Its massive size and density would overwhelm the surrounding low-rise residential neighborhoods of Fort Greene, Park Slope and Prospect Heights. Its use of eminent domain has transferred private property to a private developer, Forest City Ratner. Also, the approval process at the New York state level bypassed any local input, control and oversight of the project.
As a photographer living on the edge of the proposed site, this book is one part of a long-term project to document the built environment in and around the project site.
