Over het boek
I started my pilgrimage to Sturgis back in the film days, before digital photography, when I took mostly snapshots. Now, I shoot with intention as a photojournalist for motorcycle enthusiast publications such as Easyriders and Quick Throttle magazines. After years of covering the rally, the milestone of a diamond anniversary meant it was time to create a narrative of how I saw Sturgis through my lens.
This book celebrates being in a state of mind that can only be achieved by experiencing this event firsthand. People describe the rally using the phrase: "there's nothing like it." My images go one step further to give the reader a behind-the-scenes, insider's look. This is an annual event that includes so many activities in 10 days that to shoot it feels like you're drinking through a fire hose.

Over de maker
After beginning my career as a photojournalist in 1978, I spent 33 years in the automotive industry but kept practicing the craft of photography along the way. I escaped Corporate America in 2007 to become a freelance photographer by starting The Main Event Imaging LLC, an outdoor event photography business specializing in motorsports and concerts. Natural History is my focus today with G. Russel Childress Nature Photography. Here I spend most of my time on location underwater, riding an ATV, in the air or on a 4X4 overland journey. Celebrating and emphasizing the aesthetic value of nature, I want my images to leave people touched, moved, and inspired in a way that empowers them to take ownership and provide stewardship of the natural world. www.childress.com
