Hearts of Our Fathers---Summary
Lee Davis is a robotics engineer and trouble shooter for a large railroad company. He teaches Primary, served a mission in Germany, and thought he would be married by now. When a friend, Joseph Benally, ends up dead at a derailment site Lee gets involved in finishing his friend’s mission to deliver some valuable records and gets a dose of adventure he has not bargained for.
Lee’s determination to follow his friend’s final request leads him on a chase across part of the Southwest, with enemy agents hot on his trail. The opposition will stop at nothing to get the records and destroy them, including kidnapping and murder. A lot of money and some high powered European reputations are at stake, to say nothing of the priceless genealogical information that some of the records contain. To retrieve the records Lee must find the information that locates them and then evade capture as he and Joseph’s sister, Anna, and uncle, John, stretch their mental and physical resources to retrieve and deliver them into the right hands.
The chase leads them onto a dangerous river in spring flood stage, to an ancient storage ruin, across the Midwest by plane, and on to Washington, D.C. where the opposition gets reinforcements and the three friends discover the power of a CTR ring and of ancestors long dead. The chase continues through Arlington National Cemetery to the Museum of the American Indian, to the Shakespeare Library and finally ends in the Washington Mall area of D.C.
Friendships are forged, reliance on the Spirit strengthens, and the power of good people is reaffirmed in this story of dedication to a cause accepted many years in the past and now coming to a close.
