This book, originally published in 2011 and revised in 2018, is a series of photo-essays about 10 different locations, regions, or collections of related things, scattered through the states of Washington and Oregon. They are destinations that are personal favorites of the author--some of them familiar tourist attractions, others unusual and even quirky--photographed multiple times during repeated visits, some of them over more than half a century. Although centered on the images themselves, the book presents brief descriptions and discussions of each destination and the reasons for its inclusion.

A lifelong Northwesterner (except for medical training and military service), I retired in 2011 after 35 years on the faculty of the University of Washington, serving as medical director of respiratory care at Harborview Medical Center in Seattle. Ever since college in the 1960s I have been an enthusiastic avocational photographer, particularly attracted to patterns in nature and to subjects that are inherently intriguing or otherwise fascinating. Fortunate to travel extensively in connection with my work, as well as at every opportunity here in the Northwest, I have seldom been without my camera. My extensive photo archive--now digitized--continues to provide me with challenges and enthusiam during retirement. In addition to publishing a number of photography books and illustrated memoirs (several of which are available at Blurb), over the last 25 years I have made annual photo calendars--more than 80 in all--to give as gifts to family, friends, and colleagues.
