Jean Charles Academy

Lynn, MA
Over

Jean Charles is named after the parents of JCA founder, Nakia Navarro. Nancy Jean and Charles Isreal were both born and raised in South Carolina during Jim Crow. Both attended segregated schools and believed that education was THE way out of poverty. We celebrate them with the naming of our school.

Logo Symbolism
The monarch is on the extinction list because of increased pollution. We believe that this is a direct tie to people of color dealing with institutions grounded in systems of oppression. We believe that building a space that celebrates the cultures of all in a community with a lens focused on equity is the way toward equality.

Green to symbolize growth.

The "three sisters" (corn, squash and beans) we include in homage to indigenous people.

The Bese Saka is an African symbol that represents affluence, power, abundance, plenty, togetherness and unity.
