The book is the biography of Jack E. Burke, a man who had a career in law enforcement in Nashville with the Davidson County Sheriffs Office before forming private fire departments in Nashville and Brentwood, Tennessee. Through the life of Chief Burke is told the history of several families including the families of Burke, Hooberry, Haley, Trauernicht and Baltz.
