When you look at the landscape what do you see?

Fields, grass and hedgerows? Or history, events and emotions?

This small collection of photos taken in North Wiltshire reflect a little of all of these, but the emphasis is on capturing the emotions which landscape evokes.

The history of a place seeping fron the land in the man-made forms and lines marking the surface.

The sense of events great and small swirling in the open spaces and confined paths and tracks which make up the English landscape.

If any of this makes sense to you, then you may enjoy these photographs. All have been made using digital SLR equipment and a handful of lenses.

Robert Cock
Rowteight Chippenham, Wiltshire, UK
Robert Cock was born in Kent in England in the nineteen fifties and enjoyed a peripatetic childhood. By the age of eleven he had lived in several English counties, Northern Rhodesia (now Zambia) and Bermuda. After a spell in an English boarding school in Hampshire, and a Geography degree at Liverpool University, where he met and married Judith, he followed his father's footsteps as a Chartered Surveyor. This allowed a varied career in central and local government, and currently the financial services sector. He has now retired and lives in the Welsh Marches with his wife Judith, enjoying a second youth now their two children have reached adulthood and left home. Throughout his life he has enjoyed photography as an amateur. The advent of digital photography has been a complete liberation, allowing his creative impulses freer rein than was ever the case with film and print. The work you see here is the product of that free rein and his own particular take on the world around him.
