HARVEY H. BOYD
Born in November of 1944 in the state of North Carolina, in the small town of Matthews, Harvey H. Boyd grew up as the youngest child of four. His mother, Viola Elizabeth Boyd and father Sam Henry Boyd were community involved leaders and residents in Matthews throughout the mid to late 1900's. Sam Boyd became
the first African-American Mayor of the small community of Crestdale. As a child, Harvey attended Matthews Colored School, an elementary school established by Julius Rosenwald who was the President of Sears & Roebuck Co. From there, Harvey continued seeking an education by enrolling into what was then Clear Creek
High School which later became J.H. Gunn High School. While a student at J.H. Gunn High, a school without an art department, Harvey was made aware that his passion for visual arts could not be fulfilled there. Harvey then transfered to West Charlotte High School so that he could study art.
