Rafael Melendez is a prolific contemporary artist primarily working in drawings and artists books. Born in 1970 in Fresno, California, USA, Melendez went on to study at the San Francisco Art Institute. His work mines his unconscious and experiments with the hybridization of personal, spiritual and art historical lore which he transforms into dreamlike imagery that mocks social conventions.
