Over het boek
The images in the book were made in New York between 1996 and 1997 while I was still studying photography at New York University. I was so ignorant about color photography that I probably didn’t even know who William Eggleston was.
I photographed almost everything in a bright sunlight that afforded me the faster shutter speed and wider depth of field. The results looked bland and something was missing. Around that time, I had no idea how the slightest shift of light would subtly change the temperature of colors, thus greatly alter the meaning of a photograph. I had a long way to go…
New York was, and still is, for me an ideal playground to photograph freely. At first glance, the city looks collided, corrupted and collapsed. But underneath the noise, there is a barely audible beautiful harmony if you care to listen.
