Early days of "jail time" in Fairplay Colorado. Linda Bjorklund's extensive research of archival records and subsequent account of local crimes reveals that all too many wrongdoers did indeed become reluctant guests of the town in first the courthouse retention facility and the later "improved quarters." The idealism of many of the tales about the American "West" diminishes when the actual stories of murders, the lynching and hangings in this small rural town are read in her book, "Doin' Time in Fairplay."
