Over het boek
"75 Years in Vale" uses historic photographs and writings, as well as modern narratives and memories, to tell the story of Vale Club, a women’s group in Oakton, Virginia, which was established in 1934. The Club, which began as a Home Demonstration Club affiliated with Virginia Polytechnic Institute's Extension Service, has been in continuous operation since its founding.
In 1935, the Club convinced the Fairfax County School Board to allow it to convert the abandoned Vale schoolhouse into a community house. By 1938, the Club had raised enough money and purchased the school property.
In addition to the story of Vale Club, oral histories, historic writings, and new research findings give the reader a glimpse of the history of the small community once known as Vale, Virginia.
