This book is as much about decay and grief as it is about transformation, love, beauty, life and truth. The majority of this work is centered in the different regions of Ohio but does spread out into different lands of the Midwest while always finding something beautiful in the most desolate of places.

This book is dedicated to a lot of different places, people, things, and times but most of all, this book is dedicated to my one and only love and the heart that is at the center of it all: Hayley Hammerstrom.

Brian Jax Rinaldi, sometimes known simply as Jax, is a 25-year-old photographer and writer from Cleveland, Ohio. Photography has been a central thread in his life for over eight years. In addition to his artistic pursuits, he is deeply involved in the world of recovery and is a passionate advocate for mental health and healing from trauma. Jax is currently working on his first novel, The Color of Butterflies, and has self-published a photography book titled About Life and Death in the Midwest. His partner, writer Hayley Hammerstrom, and he collaborated on their first book together, A Blue Pink Cloud, which is a collection of Hayley's poetry and Brian's photography. Brian Jax Rinaldi has a profound love for symbols, nature, and abandoned places, but above all, he cherishes color.
