Over het boek
Maples on the Pond; Nature Preserve - Japanese Maple Leaves Volume One A -L is 90 pages that measure 8" x 10" (20.32 x 25.4 cm) and printed on high quality paper. There are 163 different varieties of Japanese maples from A -L. It contains 174 color photographs, one or more color photographs of each variety that John Altyn took during his 11 years and 4 months while living within the Nature Preserve in Croton, Michigan, USA.. He took over 100,000 photographs during the different seasons, doing his best to capture each tree on May 15, July 15 and October 15 to keep it as accurate as possible. He also has specific instructions about the light requirements that he used for each individual tree, rather than the typical "Sun/part shade" information which is vague and useless. It also includes approximate mature height and width of each variety, including the specific names of each cultivar, variety and when possible, the year it was first discovered or released to the public. Plus, specific growing zones information and how to protect sensitive trees during the frigid Winter months, and how and went to fertilize and exactly what type of fertilizer to use. Special mulching and pruning techniques that he learned by experimenting and living with his results to share with you.
There are two pages in the back for notes to keep written records of your personal observations of your trees and information you may need regarding your own garden or landscape.
It also includes a brief history of John Altyn's life experiences beginning at an early age and some information regarding his career as an artist and musician.
John has dedicated decades of his life studying, pursuing, purchasing, planting, observing and photographing over 800 different varieties of Japanese maple trees which he still cares for to this day.
Each book is printed in the United States.
