Over het boek
This book was made for a project at the Aarhus School Of Architecture. At the institute of Architecture under supervision of Claus Peder Pedersen, Niels Martin Larsen and Sebastian Gmelin at the Morphogenetic Studio.
We have been mapping the principles of swarming in ant colonies, and explored how to apply these principles in morphogenesis - form finding. In order to do this, we have used various digital tools, such as “Processing”, “Monkey”, “Grasshopper” as well as physical model.
The project should be understood as an investigation of our ability to understand and be inspired by natures way of shaping the world around us. This was done using different digital tools. By doing this we are able to create forms which we couldn’t anticipate with our own minds.
We believe that this way of working can be transferred into all aspects of architecture from design to urban planning. It’s not just about copying things we find in nature, but rather to be inspired by the logic and rules of our world and the creatures living on it.
