Over het boek
This is my book on Brick Lane, London. In November 2010 I spent the month going to Brick Lane to document the street and the people in it.
I wanted to take photographs that typify the life of Brick Lane. I followed a broad brief that would allow me to take photographs that reflect the uniqueness of the street and the variety of its inhabitants.
For a month I got the train from New Cross Gate to Whitechapel then walked through the market to Brick Lane. I walked up and down Brick Lane on numerous occasions, often with fellow photographer Edward Clifford. Throughout November I went night and day to capture the essence of the street. I visited restaurants, galleries, shops, places of worship, back-streets and any other places of interest along the way. I also went into squats, climbed walls and gained access to rooftops and different viewpoints so I could capture unique photos.
The following pages show the photographs I took. The book starts from the lower end of Brick Lane near Algate East to the top of the street near Shoreditch. The photographs show images of humour, charm, hard work, poverty, development, history and much more.
