Over het boek
Photographing in Egypt I discovered that the ancient is as alive as the present, and magical — the camera eye saw the past as I lived it! I explored the rarely visited people and landscapes of the countryside, the all-dominating Nile and the miraculous ruins and desert beyond.
While in Egypt I relied mostly on public transportation: trains, buses and cabs between towns. I had a particularly remarkable adventure spending a week on a felucca, the typical sailboat on the Nile, on which I went from Aswan to Luxor. Many of the famous ruins are situated along the Nile and to approach them from the river was amazing. I very much enjoyed the company of my two English speaking Nubian boatmen and sleeping under the stars as we berthed along the shore of the Nile.
