This book shares the true account of Elmer R. Sorensen's survival in World War II and Stalag IX-B.
Elmer served in the United States Army, 106th Infantry Division, 423rd Regiment, during World War II.
In the initial days of the Battle of the Bulge, two of the Division's three regiments, including the 423rd, were surrounded and forced to surrender to the Germans.
Bad Orb, Germany was the site of POW camp Stalag IX-B. It held 3000-4500 American Soldiers, most of them captured after the Battle of the Bulge. Stalag IX-B ranked as one of the worst German camps.
At the end of World War II over 6,500 POWs were eventually rescued and returned to American military control. The remainder were listed MIA.
Elmer R. Sorensen was one of the fortunate rescued and returned home to his family.
