Over het boek
Born in Ukraine in 1979, Sorochinski spent her early years living in northern Russia, then Israel, Montreal and currently resides in Brooklyn. Working somewhere between reality and fantasy, Sorochinski examines issues of intimacy, fears, and unresolved conflicts prevalent in relationships. The actors in these constructed realities are Anna & Eve, a mother and daughter she befriended in 2005. Working within the tradition of fictitious narratives, Sorochinski examines the connections between mother and daughter, including the protector, the observer and the caretaker. These are scenes drawn from fairy tales, myths and the artist’s imagination.
As the artist states: “Anna and Eve were particularly interesting to me because the boundary between the child and the adult woman was blurred to an unusually high degree. This was primarily due to the mother's young age (23); it seemed at times that she was more of a child than her 3 year-old daughter. It was often hard to tell who held the power and control between the two, and who was learning the essence of being a human in this world.”
