Over het boek
I spent many years in Europe, and I painted cities and towns of France, Italy, Greece, and Romania, along with getting inspiration in towns of Connecticut, Rhode Island, and Massachusetts. There is a strong influence of Picasso and Braque in the way I treat three-dimensional representations, by cutting and flattening the forms that the eye does not see, but the mind knows that they are there. I would like to be able to express more than three dimensions on the canvas, by using principles of modern geometry, computer simulations, and de-coupling forms and colors. I find Matisse hypnotic, because of the fresh unexpected colors and the modern composition. I imagine my cities being somewhere between Rothko’s vibrating fields of color, temporary shapes of an incessant energy.
