Over het boek
Fine Art and digitally processed images of cars. A lot has changed since Henry Ford said: “People can have the Model T in any color – so long as it’s black.” My first car was the 1969 Ford Cortina GT. This was something of a curiosity in Israel in those days, as in contrast to a ‘normal’ car with a front bench seating three people and a steering wheel gear shift, this one had twin leather bucket seats with a floor mounted stick shift in between. I loved the car and enjoyed doing most of the service jobs myself. The cars of today are of another breed - all computers and hi-tech. Peter Gabriel said in one of his songs: “All of those cars were once just a dream in somebody’s head”. And what dreams they were! I like photographing cars and in this book I want to display some of the shots I like the most. The cars are from various periods, some new some old and some even older, some bright and shiny, some old and rusty but all beautiful and the products of somebody’s dream. The cars we drive say a lot about us and our attitude to life. I don’t know what type of car Mavis Leyrer drives but I definitely subscribe to her philosophy: “Life’s journey is not to arrive at the grave safely, in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, totally worn out, shouting ‘Holy shit, what a ride!’” I hope that you enjoy looking at the pictures as much as I enjoyed shooting and processing them.

Artist's Statement: Seeing and being aware of your surroundings serves as the foundation of my photography. All you have to do is look and I’m always looking. A picture should provoke a feeling. With each photograph I take, my final goal is to create an image that conveys what I sensed and felt and what made me want to press the shutter release to capture that moment in time or place. Shooting the picture is often only the start of the creative process. Although I generally do not add or remove anything significant from my pictures, I use many digital imaging techniques to enrich and enhance the final image to mirror my personal impression and feelings towards the subject.
