Over het boek
Each of these photographers explores landscapes that have felt the (sometimes severe) impact of industry --from ruined, abandoned buildings of Chernobyl, to deserted trains in a Bolivian desert, to post-communist Berlin, to abandoned factories in America. In some cases, however, these “ruined” landscapes become the canvases for a new generation of artists, like the graffiti artists who paint on factories in Barcelona, or the musicians who turned a former prison/armory in Rochester, NY into a venue. In like manner, the photographers exhibited in this book have turned “ugly” or “decaying” subjects into something new—if not beautiful, then at least interesting and worth discussing.
