Over het boek
Photographic collection of churches set up in refurbished architectures of all kinds. These transformed garages, stores, bank, old apartments and other vernacular architectures were found within a 15 min walking radius from Leverich Gardens on Bushwick Ave./ corner Gates Ave. in Brooklyn, the building were I lived between September 2009 to Sept 2010. It was located near Hope Gardens, a project housing complex built under the Koch administration after the big black out of 1977 followed by luting and riots in Bushwich in Brooklyn, NY.
During the same location scoutings walks, I photographed both churches and gardens and made the 2 artist books; Hope Houses (Location Scouting) and Memory Mapping Hope Gardens (locations Scoutings). The images of both books were to be used as memory cards for a long and complicated art project entitled "Becoming Fahrenheit 451/Forgetting Fahrenheit 451" using my neighborhood as a memory palace. In the end, I also wanted to give their presences a space for themselves by making this book.
