Jorge V. Gavilondo (Chicago, 1949) is a freelance photographer that lives in Havana, Cuba, since 1950. Jorge is a member of the Visual Arts Section of the National Union of Writers and Artists of Cuba (UNEAC).
"Doors of Havana and Matanzas" collects images of doors taken by the author during the period 2001-2014, mainly in Havana, but also in the city of Matanzas, Cuba.
Jorge's goal is to document the fantastic wood work of old doors that can still be found in Cuban cities, most in a state of partial or total disarray. The artist plays in post-processing with reality by slightly saturating the paint colors used both for the wood and for the backgrounds (frames, walls) to produce eye-catching effects.
All images in the book, and work done by Jorge for the last two years in this same subject, are also available as prints from his website, with worldwide distribution.
