In his last days of graduate school, David Björkman became fascinated with Max Ernst's graphic surrealistic novel "Une Semaine de Bonté" and began working with his own style of collage, depicting the surreal bending of Time and describing the result in narratives.

After graduating, he stopped working the collages to embark on a two-year spiritual Journey to the East. While living in Athens events pointed him into photography and for the next 30 years he worked as an international photojournalist and war photographer. During this time he has been smuggled across borders at night, and survived a helicopter being shot out from under him. He has slept on the floor of a Lakota Sioux holy man's house for months at a time to complete a book assignment. He has been a member of the Explorers Club, photographing the Chagres River Expedition into the Darien Jungle of Panama. A Mayanist he has spent the last 16 years photographing the Maya and the rebuilding of their pyramids. He has lead special tours and has scoured the jungles for hidden pyramids.

In 2013, while walking on the beach in southern California, an epiphany brought him back to working with collage, thus completing a long cycle. Now David has created an adventure, a fascinating, visceral layering of elements evocative of what he calls Dreamland. He uses the surrealistic metaphor of dreams to project a mysterious, literary, sometimes biting, sometimes humorous commentary on our contemporary culture.

Here the viewer journeys into dreamlike narratives entitled That First Door; That Early Attempt; That Bike Race; That Oxkintok Prophesy; That Giant Sunflower; That Literary Dialogue, That Time Travel; That Fleeting Moment; That Final Cut; That Apocalyptic Army; and others. But beware my friend, beware, because you could easily end up in That Sound Bath.
