Over het boek
In October 2014 our group left Vancouver for a 3 week trip to Bali, Indonesia. We arrived at Denpasar International Airport then drove to Legian Beach, Kuta. We stayed at the Grandmas Hotel in the heart of the tourist area where we shopped, visited the beach and enjoyed great food. The next day we drove up through the island to Lovina, on the north shore, where we stayed at the Aneka Lovina Resort during our build. Each day we drove 45 minutes up into the mountains to build 2 houses on a narrow village road in Gobleg: thankfully it was cooler and less humid. Clareta , our HfH supervisor, Edo the construction supervisor and Ricky the community organizer introduced us to the young families for whom we were building the houses. It was a relatively easy build: digging in sandy dirt and moving cinder blocks around a small site. The families were very friendly and welcoming, the weather was warm and dry. In between building we enjoyed visiting temples, cooling off in the GitGit waterfall, a sunset dinner on the beach and snorkeling around Menjangan Island National Park. Once our build was finished, we drove to Ubud where we spent 5 days at a colossal resort called Pertiwi Resort on Monkey Forest Rd. In Ubud we: walked the Campuan Ridge, biked through rice fields and villages near Batur Volcano, made silver jewelry, reveled in massages, ate great food and learned where Luwak coffee beans come from! Our last stop was Gili Air where we snorkeled and relaxed in the sun on the small island. We survived the boat ride back to the main land and our drive back to Kuta and flew home the next day. Another great Habitat for Humanity building experience!
