Over het boek
The northern Maine coast, from Ellsworth to Lubec, remains relatively untrammeled by tourists. You can smell the kerosene heaters and wood fires, see the old pickups on blocks and lobsterboats tied to their piers. "Upcoast Maine" is a look at the Maine of our imaginations, not yet turned into a Starbucks of our nightmares. Photographer Richard Nilsen has been visiting this ragged section of the state for more than 30 years and his photographs attempt to capture some of the magic of this landscape.
