Over het boek
A FEW WORDS
In Japan the coming of cherry blossom is celebrated every spring; it symbolises the fragility and beauty of life.
A Few Words is a new artwork by artist Penny Leaver Green focusing on the life-changing outcomes of organ donation for both recipients and donor families.
Its aim is to find a place for the expression of words which usually remain unsaid, as well as to encourage people to sign up to the National Organ Donor Register: www.organdonation.nhs.uk
Penny contacted members of families whose relatives had donated their organs, as well as organ recipients, asking them to consider one of the following questions:
What would you say to the person who received the organ you agreed to be donated?
What would you say to the person who donated the organ you received?
The responses form the basis of the artwork created by Penny and now installed at Southmead Hospital Bristol.
This book charts the process and work.
A Few Words was initiated by the Organ Donation Committee at Southmead Hospital and facilitated by Fresh Arts, the arts programme managed by North Bristol NHS Trust.
The project was made possible with the generous support of:
- ICU charitable funds
- Renal charitable funds
- Guy Jordan Memorial Fund
- North Bristol NHS Trust Organ Donation Committee
