Over het boek
The low light behaved in mysterious ways; refracted by the heavy clouds and sparkling icy air and in response, wonderfully particular colours erupted in the landscape. It was thrilling to be absorbing such an atmospheric environment; “Morning or night, the sky is alive with radiantly dancing wisps of astral activity. Bright colours glow and morph all throughout the wonderfully energetic landscape.”
Filled with inspiration Murray has been continuously working through the vivid observations she made whilst in Iceland. She works in her WASPS studio in Edinburgh using oil paint, powdered pigments and gloss paint on board.

Over de maker
Predominantly I am a painter, working on oil based primed boards. I mix house hold gloss with oil paint, fluorescent pigment and a range of oil based mediums. I use lithography, screen printing and drawing with mixed media to further explore my ideas and themes. As painting is primarily a form of expression I respond to the state of my psyche, and to my surroundings. Works evolve in response to my physical surroundings; a new landscape, or a mental shift. I experiment with the interaction between pictorial and abstract spaces and with the human form and text. I often acquire inspiration from fairy tales, and use the magical myths to anchor the personal and emotional expression. My representations of figures are constructed in ways which illustrate emotions and my paintings juxtapose feelings of confinement and liberation- birds and flight beside stripes or within curves have become increasingly utilized symbols.
