Photographed during the heyday of Japan’s economic bubble, between 1988-92, Tokyo--Inside and Out was the first major body of photojournalistic work by Paul Takeuchi. The 51 photographs featured in this book represent a sampling of the series that was first shown in Boston and San Francisco in 1995.

PAUL TAKEUCHI was born in Washington, D.C. and now lives in Brooklyn, NY. He has received numerous awards and grants, including from The Robert M. MacNamara Foundation, The Atlantic Center for the Arts, the Ucross Foundation, and the Lower Manhattan Cultural Council. In addition to exhibiting his art in over 20 one-man and group shows, his work has appeared in dozens of publications, including The Sciences, Photo Metro, Kyoto Journal, and The New York Times. In 2007, he received an International Lucie Award for his abstract nature photography (Visual Haiku series) and in 2008, images from his Tokyo Crossing series (2002-6), which focuses on the geometric choreography of that city’s pedestrians, appeared in Redivider.
