Over het boek
In the summer of 1784, a twenty two year old James Innes arrived on the Miramichi from Scotland where he would live the rest of his life and witness its early settlement. This book explores this James Innes and where he came from and where he fit in the epic saga of the Innes clan. The story begins with Berowald, a Knight in the service of King Malcolm IV of Scotland and the first Innes. It continues generation by generation in parallel to the history of Scotland through medieval times and the reigns of Robert the Bruce, The Stewarts and Mary Queen of Scots on to the Reformation and Culloden. The story traces his lineage from a time when the name Innes was synonymous with power in Scotland until he was born on the banks of the River Spey in 1763, the son of a crofter. The story then moves on to explore how he was to come to the Miramichi and his life experience after he got there.
