Over het boek
The ordering system of the book follows the logic of the work: a nonlinear investigation into the everchanging conditions of a world in flux. This book, a micropædia of sorts, utilizes a proactive agglomeration of terms, rather than an after-the-fact glossary. In this way the research aims to engage the reader in the spirit of addictive, alphabetized encyclopedias, a productive alley-oop to the imagination of a generation outdating the clickbait crew of 2017.
Benefitting from sources including Oxford English Dictionary (OED), and the work of Scientists, designers and the like, the book aims to educate the reader, as much as it does its' author in the vast, robust knowledge base that is required to understand the cultural, ecological, structural, and and and... concerns of the project's breadth. Herein, the reader will be submerged in a world of terms, or to borrow a concept from French philosopher Gilles Deleuze, between things:
"Between things does not designate a localizable relation going from one thing to the other and back again, but a perpendicular direction, a transversal movement that sweeps one and the other away, a stream without beginning or end that undermines its banks and picks up speed in the middle.2
As a study in threshold, such as the gradient(s) between water and land, and between inland water and deep sea, the book hopes to highlight the continuitities between the physical and cultural landscape on the Louisiana coastline. It is envisioned as a two-part book, or diptych offering the lessons gleaned from both fictional and nonfictional investigations in the first half, and the production of work with a specificity in siting in the second.
