Over het boek
These are some of the photos that I took while stationed in South Vietnam as an Army Photographer in 1962 and 1963. They show a Vietnam not yet ravaged by the war. You will find pictures of the men in my unit, photos around our camp, photos of landmarks in Saigon, photos of Qui Nhon, and the Mekong Delta as well as the Tri Ton area. There are some photos in a strategic hamlet and a number of photos of Vietnamese civilians. I followed Francis Cardinal Spellman around the country during his visit in December 1962. I photographed the South Vietnam Independence Day parade, reviewed by President Ngo Dinh Diem in October, 1962. I also photographed a moving planeside memorial for Capt. Kenneth N. Good, Sgt. William L. Deal, and SP-4 Donald L. Braman who were killed on January 2, 1963 at the Battle of Ap Bac. Their names are near the top of the first panel of the Vietnam War Memorial in Washington, DC.
