This is a photographic essay of Deuel Vocational Institution. DVI was known as the Gladiator School to the inmates who were housed there. During the time from the mid-1960s through the early 1980s it was one of the most dangerous places on the planet and earned its nickname well. The author worked there, starting as a Correctional Officer. He retired as a Correctional Lieutenant in early 2005.
