Over het boek
A game of chess on the street, a phone call in the middle of the crowd, commuters returning home by train. Everyday life of ordinary people both in Cuba and the US. Images like mirrors showing how humans are we, even being born in different cultures and speaking different languages. Mirrors, for look inside ourselves and reconsider how much we have assumed for decades about what “the other shore” is.

Kako Escalona
Havana, Cuba
A boy who once spent his time with maps and encyclopedias and went on to become a guy who justifies with photography his passion for seeing new places. With the philosophy that empathy is more valuable than judgement for a comprehensive understanding of the world, Kako Escalona is a photo documentarian, educator, visual artist, and contributor to independent media in Cuba. Since 2012, he has taught the "Photojournalism and Social Documentary" workshop at University of Arts of Cuba (ISA), University of Havana (UH) and American University of Washington D.C (AU). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in Cinematography from University of Arts of Cuba (ISA).
