Over het Ebook
This book is the culmination of five years exploring and photographing the remote upland wildernesses of the Northern Penines in England. All the pictures where created using traditional film, cameras and traditional printing techniques. The book also contains photographic notes on all the pictures. The poems that accompany some of the pictures where written by my good friend Joseph Kelly who has joined me my on my trips many times, he wrote them as a direct emotional response to the photographs.
The word "Fell” comes from the Old Norse fell, fjall, meaning "mountain" or "high pasture" and is one of the many examples of how Viking settlers who came to the area in the 9th and 10th century inflenced life in the dales. It's these connections to the past and the way man has shaped the landscape that inspired me to start this project.
