Over het Ebook
This very timely book speaks to where many people find themselves today - somewhat cash-strapped but still desiring to live well. I show that it is possible - through "Thrifty" living - to live very well in comfortable, "Chic", designer style without spending a lot of money. This book lays out how I furnished my 3-bedroom, 1 1/2-bath, mid-century modern ranch home, without "breaking the bank".
In THRIFTY CHIC, I share insights into how, when and where to find your treasures. I touch on cost and how not to spend a lot of money in the process. I discuss how to develop and refine your decorating style and I speak to the pros and cons of reconditioning the pieces that you find; is it worth it. I talk about arranging your new treasures and what it means to “complete” a space. I also let you know where I had the most luck finding my treasures and how much I paid for them.
I discovered two things while writing this book:
1) That you can live quite well without going into debt or spending great sums of money.
2) It is possible to find good, quality designer furniture and accessories through non-traditional venues.
Through both anecdote and photos, I describe the process that I walked through as I acquired wonderful vintage and mid-century modern furniture and accessories for my home. I was able to find quality furniture whose designs, designers, and manufacturers include Eames, Heywood Wakefield, Hans Wegner, Viko Baumritter, and Lane Alta Vista, among others. The great thing about it is that I did not pay anything near designer prices. I acquired everything at a substantial savings compared to retail prices, through shopping mainly at Thrift and Thrift Department Stores, Bazaars and Flea Markets.
THRIFTY CHIC lets the reader know that it really is possible to "live like a million bucks" in your perfect designer space without "breaking the bank"!
